Our Mission: Blazing Trails

We extend learning beyond traditional boundaries for those seeking a degree or professional advancement.

Through this work, we are engaged in:

  • Design and development of active, online and blended learning experiences leading to improved learner engagement and success.
  • Joint administration of credit and professional non-credit self-support and online programs, in collaboration with university and community partners.
  • Certification, review, and support of online and blended teaching.
  • Incubation of innovative learning models, programs, practices, and services.

 

Innovation at work

Along with other innovation tenants, such as the DSU Makerspace, Zions Bank Business Resource Center, Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL), ACE Academy, and various small business start-ups, DXL is located at the Atwood Innovation Plaza (former East Elementary) – a space designed to foster innovation in the community.

GET TO KNOW THE DXL TEAM

The Office of Digital & Extended Learning (DXL) is a member of the division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Provost and VP of Academic Affairs.

Our team is comprised of 12 (and growing) professionals, with a vast array of experience in and outside of higher education.

All of our full-time staff members hold at least a master’s degree, several hold doctoral degrees, and many staff members have direct industry experience working with other higher education institutions, Fortune 500 corporations, state and federal governments, non-profit organizations, and public education.

Our History: Blazing Trails

January 2017

The Distance & Digital Learning office was established as recommended in the 2020 University Strategic Plan.

August 2018

Officially launched the first fully online program (Nursing RN-BSN).

November 2018

The office was renamed to Digital & Extended Learning (DXL) to align with expanded responsibilities beyond digital learning.

May 2020

Mission expanded to direct self-support credit and professional, non-credit programs, and establish community partnerships and new learning models.
